With Season 16 of So You Think You Can Dance in full swing, it's important to look to the voting rounds ahead. No one wants to be the first person to go home, but someone has to go home. It's a competition.
Anyone who has ever participated in the show will tell you that winning doesn't guarantee success post-SYTYCD, and going home first doesn't deny you success in the dance industry. Remember, these contestants were chosen as the Top 20 or Top 10 of that calendar year, so getting cast on the show is a huge accomplishment in itself.
Let's take a look at a few dancers, who were out first on SYTYCD, but who are still killing it in the dance industry.
Ricky Palomino, Season 3
Ricky has had success both as a dancer and choreographer on shows like Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, Dance Moms and Raising Asia. He's worked with music stars like The Pointer Sisters and Patti Labelle. He will also be seen in the upcoming film The Accompanist, which was shown at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival as a part of Directors Fortnight.
Ariana DeBose, Season 6
What a ride Ariana has been on over the last year. In the last decade, she's performed in six Broadway shows, including a Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical in 2018. She's now starring as Anita in West Side Story, directed by Stephen Spielberg.
Nick Young, Season 8
Nick Young has done a great job of keeping tap in front of America on television. He's come back to choreograph on SYTYCD and his tap company, Rhythmatic, competed on Season 1 of World of Dance. He's been recognized for his work by the Capezio A.C.E. Awards in 2016 and 2017.
Janaya French, Season 9
Even though Janaya French has never been a pro on Dancing With the Stars, she's well known to the fans of the show. She toured with Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy in their Our Way Tour back in 2016 and the MVP Confidential Tour in 2018. She's also been seen in Teen Beach 2, Ted 2 and Grease Live!
Brittany Cherry, Season 10
One of the biggest success stories after being eliminated first is Brittany Cherry. She has consistently worked in the dance industry in front of and behind the camera. She was a troupe member on Dancing With the Stars and now, she's a member of Team NappyTabs as a supervising choreographer on World of Dance.
Robert Green, Season 14
Robert Green was already successful before he hit the stage on Season 14 of So You Think You Can Dance with All-Star Jasmine Harper. Robert has toured with Taylor Swift several times around the globe and he's also danced for Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez and The Weekend. Keep your eyes out for Robert's choreography as well, it's a big focus for him as his career progresses.
